Who Is The HB-HS Network?
Our Mission Statement:
We seek to pass on knowledge and traditions from one generation to the next through the use of heritage breeds and heirloom seeds in historical, sustainable farming.
We're a group of allied producers dedicated to stewarding heritage breeds and heirloom seeds in the Central Appalachian region. We expect our Networkers to maintain a high standard of ethics in both husbandry and business to continue with and to enjoy the privileges of our alliance; all members of the Network must treat others with respect at all times, and profane language or insulting comments will not be tolerated. We promote self sustaining agriculture with humane and natural husbandry. We seek to educate others on the fine qualities of the historical animals and crops of our forefathers, and to help conserve our genetic diversity. We strongly believe the youth are vital to conservation and many in our network will offer mentoring, internships and assistance in acquiring heritage breeds and/or heirloom seeds.
We are conserving the past to preserve our future!
Our Code Of Ethics
The Heritage Breeds-Heirloom Seeds Network’s Code of Ethics. In joining the HB-HS Network, the producer agrees to abide by the following code of ethics:
1. Be honest in transactions involving animals and seeds/plants, fully disclosing all relevant and known information pertaining to the sale or barter.
2. Be reliable in the transfer of goods by adhering to dates/times agreed upon with recipient.
3. Be courteous and pleasant when transacting business or interacting with other Networkers, taking into consideration diverse cultures, viewpoints, and needs.
4. Be supportive of fellow Networkers, offering encouragement and assistance when possible. There is no room for competition in this Network; a member shall not insult or devalue another member's stock in an attempt to sway buyers into purchasing from their stock rather than that of their fellow member.
5. Be humane in husbandry, providing for all needs of your animals in stewardship. Take an interest in where your animals go after leaving your care. Strive to improve your breeds rather than “just producing more of them”.
6. Be in compliance of local and state laws governing/regulating your farming practice.
7. Be willing to actively pass on your knowledge of heritage breeds and/or heirloom seeds to younger generations, through such avenues as mentoring, internships, educational workshops, etc.
Violation of any Heritage Breeds-Heirloom Seeds Network guideline, code or policy may be grounds for removal from the HB-HS Network after an investigation from our Administrators.
